Using the Blend feature, you can create 3-D looking objects.

Start with a circle, using a custom blend to create a 3 color fill.

Use the spiral tool to create a spiral.
Place the circles at the start and end of the curve.

Blend the two circles together, using the spiral as the blend path.
Make sure you use many steps for a smooth 3-D look.

Changing the size & orientation on the spheres changes the object.
